Not one coastal city or county along South Carolina's tourist-crazed Grand Strand plans emergency inspections of high-rise oceanfront buildings, despite last year's death of 98 people in the collapse of a 12-story Florida condo due to structural issues and October's forced evacuation of a 22-story Myrtle Beach beachfront tower. This lack of public safety action comes even after Miami-Dade County officials conducted sweeping emergency safety inspections of hundreds of condominiums in the wake of the deadly collapse of Champlain Tower South in Surfside Beach.
